A special event featuring Bob “Daddy-O” Wade, creator of local sculpture icons such as the “Hula Hut Fish”, the “Ranch 616 Snake” and the “Shoal Creek Saloon Saints Helmet”, will be held at the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture on Friday October 16th from 6 – 9pm.
At 7:00pm Dr. Jason Mellard will provide background about Bob Wade and will discuss the cultural import of this artwork. Then Wade, a UT and Berkeley grad and “Texas Funk” artist of other well known works such as New York’s “Lone Star Café Giant Iguana” and “San Antonio’s Biggest Cowboy Boots in the World”, will give an artist talk about his artwork – giving insights about such things as his photodocumentation, photocanvases, oddball artifacts, and early sculpture/ installations such as his 1975 “Texas Formal Garden” at Laguna Gloria which featured live chickens, (early Austin Weird).
The recipient of three NEA Grants, Bob participated in the Paris and Whitney Biennials and has been the subject of numerous articles in Newsweek, People, Art in America, as well as documentaries and books.
Following the artist talk, Wade will sign exhibit catalogs that are available for purchase.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the James Brandon band (Bruce Bowland of Ty Grimes & Flashback is recovering from surgery).
